Exclusive - Bent backs England to win Euro 2012

Darren Bent has roared on the England team ahead of their quarter-final against Italy by insisting the Three Lions can win Euro 2012.

The Aston Villa striker was overlooked by boss Roy Hodgson for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine but claims his countrymen are good enough to lift the Henri Delaunay Cup in his absence.

They face a tough Italian test this Sunday but, speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Bent claims Hodgson’s influence could see England win that quarter-final and go all the way to the final in Kiev.

“I have sneaky feeling about England,” he said. “They’re playing well. They’re solid and you can’t rule them out. It’ll be between Spain, Germany or England.

“There’s definitely a different atmosphere in the squad. You can see the effect Roy Hodgson has had on the team. It’s brilliant having an English manager.

“I’m happy the lads are doing well and performing brilliantly. They could go all the way. They are a lot more solid under Roy Hodgson and have got a really good chance.”
