Tottenham star Scott Parker will miss the first month of the season.

Spurs have confirmed that the midfielder has undergone surgery to his right Achilles and will be out until mid-September.

Parker missed Tottenham's final four Premier League matches with an Achilles injury but still played for his country at the European Championship finals.

He started all four of England's match at the tournament but it is thought he picked up another Achilles injury while representing his country.

Tottenham say the surgery has gone well but Parker is unlikely to play for at least six weeks.

A statement on the club website read: "Scott Parker has undergone successful surgery to his right Achilles.

"The midfielder is expected to return to training after the international break in September."
