Former Manchester United star Arthur Albiston has claimed the club haven’t missed out by not making a flagship signing in central midfield.
Paris Saint Germain have beaten United to Lucas Moura's signature, while Tottenham’s Luka Modric, also reportedly a target, is expected to sign for Real Madrid.
But the Scot, who made over 300 appearances for the Red Devils, reckons Sir Alex Ferguson already has enough quality within his squad to challenge Man City for the Premier League title next season.
And he told talkSPORT that the return of Tom Cleverley and Anderson alongside the evergreen presence of Paul Scholes will be more than enough quality in the middle of the park.
“Unfortunately for us Darren Fletcher who played a lot of football last season is unavailable,” Albiston said. “He’s got to get his health back before he begins thinking about football.
“Anderson has been out injured and he is hopefully coming back as well. Tom Cleverley is another player, he has not played a lot of football for United but he is a high quality player.
“We’re hoping that he and Anderson can have a decent run injury free and [Sir Alex Ferguson] might not need to sign that midfield player.
“You could argue that Paul Scholes was United’s best player in the second half of the season when he came in from the cold and he is going to have to nurture and help Cleverley and Anderson get through one more season.”
