Chelsea given boost in pursuit of Guardiola

Chelsea have been given a boost in their pursuit of Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola’s agent has rubbished reports linking the former Barcelona boss with a switch to Bayern Munich.

The 41-year-old manager quit the Nou Camp to take a year out of football and recharge his batteries, but speculation suggested he could be set to spearhead a project with the German giants starting in 12 months time.

But Josep Maria Orobitg insists Guardiola still hasn’t held discussions with anyone, news that will come as a major boost to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich who is keen to lure the Spaniard to Stamford Bridge.

"He hasn't spoken with a single club, Orobitg told Spanish newspaper Sport. “It's a waste of time, Pep doesn't know what will happen in the spring of 2013.

“Five or six big clubs have asked about him, but he doesn't want to hear it, maybe things will be different in February or March."

Chelsea recently appointed Roberto Di Matteo as their permanent manager on a two-year-deal but it is believed his contract may contain a break clause which can be activated after a year, allowing the club to make a move for Guardiola next summer.
