Stewart Robson believes Arsenal will have to reduce their valuation of Robin Van Persie if they’re to get rid of the striker this summer.
Many now believe the 28-year-old will stay at the Emirates for the remaining year of his deal, but former Highbury favourite Robson claims it would be short-sighted of the club to hold on to Van Persie and insists Arsene Wenger must show the ex-Feyenoord man the door.
“At the moment it doesn’t look like anyone is willing to pay the price Arsenal are asking for Robin van Persie,” he told the Sports Bar.
“Arsenal could end up being stuck with Van Persie, which some people might say is a good thing, but he doesn’t want to be there. It’s a difficult situation for the player, the club and the fans. They should accept something around £12million.
“This is a player who’s said he’s not going to sign for Arsenal again. I don’t see how it can work if a player doesn’t want to be at the club.”
