Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has revealed he is hoping to sign a new striker in the next seven days.
Spurs were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle at St James’ Park and, despite a goal from Jermain Defoe, they looked toothless in the final third without a centre forward to lead the line.
And the Portuguese boss admitted he is looking to bring in a player to solve this problem in the coming days.
“We are obviously looking to strengthen the squad,” said Villas-Boas. “We have to be very careful with the market still open.
“We are looking for a striker and maybe we can do it this week. If that is the case it will improve the quality of the team.
“It’s not for a lack of trying that we haven’t bought somebody else, hopefully we will try and conclude a deal this week.”
