Spurs could miss out on Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente after Juventus submitted an improved offer for the Spain international.
Llorente, who is regarded as one of the finest centre-forwards in Europe, is expected to leave before the close of the transfer window after informing his club earlier this month that he does not intend to extend his contract beyond next summer.
Reports in the Italian press at the end of last week claimed that Juventus saw their opening bid of £12.6m rejected by Athletic. The Spanish side, mindful of the fact that Llorente could leave for free in June, are holding out for £15.7m.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Serie A champions have now lodged a new bid of £14.1m plus add-ons, with senior officials at the Turin club confident they will not have to meet Athletic’s initial asking price.
News of Juventus’ latest offer could spark Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas into action. The Portuguese, who is still waiting for Luka Modric to complete his move away from the club, says signing a new striker is a priority..
